Basement

With the increase in urban land values it often makes sense to extend and convert basement space to habitable use. It is necessary to waterproof walls and floor and provide an acceptable level of daylight and means of escape in case of fire. Basements are inherently low energy, because ground temperature in winter is higher and in summer is lower than air temperature so energy losses are lower.
