We combine modern additions/alterations with preservation/restoration of original features, where these are sound. Our projects typically involve Victorian and early twentieth century properties, which can be readily adapted to contemporary lifestyles. Families go through stages; children grow up, people get older and less mobile etc, and we take account of the capacity of a scheme to suit different stages in the life of a household.
We incorporate successful features from past projects into current work but we try to approach each new commission as a fresh creative challenge to invent the best possible solution. We start with an outline design based on the client brief and develop this to a scheme on which to invite builders tenders. Our aim is also to improve accessibility by disabled and elderly users. Features which help with mobility need to be carefully thought out. They are partly generic, partly customised to specific users.
Handling daylight well not only produces visual delight it also minimises on need for artificial lighting and lowers running costs. We use a range of different types of light fitting; generally low-energy compact fluorescent for ambient lighting and tungsten, mercury halide or LED for accent.
